Manifattura Porcellana Saronno, MPS for short, manufactures porcelain ware for restaurateurs and Ho.Re.Ca. professionals. Established in 1987, our company was born with the aspiration to be a benchmark of quality and design in the production of porcelain tableware for professional and domestic use. Our products range from baking dishes that meet the standardization system of containers for professional use to original and practical finger food items, not to mention custom cups for bars, restaurants and hotels.

Excellent partnerships and quality in DNA for successful porcelain

The success achieved in recent years, which has also led us to represent Italy in the Made in Italy in the Gulf Countries project of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the United Arab Emirates, is not the result of chance, but of choices guided by an awareness of the importance of quality. To achieve this goal we continue to invest in excellent raw materials and in the search for the best practical and design solutions for all our customers, carefully planning production and warehouse management. In this way MPS is able to meet a wide variety of needs, thanks to a continuous availability of product stock to meet even just-in-time requests. But just as no man is an island, neither, a fortiori, is a business. Excellence and punctuality in responding to the needs of chefs and restaurateurs that distinguish MPS Porcellane become such through key partnerships with hundreds of clients, including giants in the restaurant industry, global restaurateurs and well-known hotel chains. It is by listening to their requests that we have built an unparalleled wealth of knowledge, as we continue with the dynamism, part of our corporate philosophy, to anticipate industry trends and demands, to stay one step ahead and provide the answers all our partners deserve. Prime examples of this vision are the lines for Finger food, a true mood for buffets and beyond, and Handware, to give substance to the hectic lifestyle of modern society, which always seeks a moment of taste to savor.

The production of our porcelain items: from raw materials to distribution

Porcelain is a commonly used material: tableware in kitchens, tiles in bathrooms, decorations in living rooms. But it is in the kitchen that porcelain is at its best: functionality and beauty for products that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.

The raw materials of the best porcelain

Porcelain is a subtype of ceramics, which is divided into three different types: hard-paste, soft-paste, and bone china. For kitchenware, hard-paste porcelain is usually used, which differs from soft-paste porcelain in that it has higher firing temperatures and a manufacturing process that increases its impact and thermal resistance.

It is, of course, the raw materials used that make the difference in the quality of the finished product: MPS uses a feldspathic porcelain mixture composed of top-quality feldspar, quartz, and kaolin from Limoges. A winning recipe, which is blended in a production process that alternates between industrial and manual stages for a result that exceeds our customers’ expectations.

Baking dishes and tableware take shape

The liquid dough obtained from grinding the raw materials goes through the manual and computerized die casting stage, when it is inserted into the molds chosen for the shape and size of the article being produced. Different techniques are used at this stage depending on the article to be made. Molding for Tazze line, with their respective saucers, and isostatic pressing for baking dishes and salad bowls are examples.

The firing and glazing stages

The semi-finished product is dried and goes through the first firing process, called bisque firing, at a temperature of about 1,000°C. The product is then decorated or colored to then apply the cover glaze, which can make the porcelain item brighter, waterproof, easy to wash, and more durable. There is then a single firing at 1300°C or a double firing at 900°C, when the article now has its final appearance: the heat will make it even more durable and nonporous, while the lead and cadmium-free cover glass will still permanently. In addition to the raw materials in the mix, it is at this stage that the differences between the various lines in our catalog emerge: for example, items of our Stoneware line are fired at lower temperatures, resulting in different thicknesses and colors than porcelain.

Selection and distribution of MPS tableware

After firing, the products undergo a series of tests to ensure that they meet the highest international standards of quality and durability. The quality of MPS porcelain tableware is also certified by ICQ, one of the leading product certification institutes on the market today, which guarantees its suitability for food contact.

The finished products are then checked and selected by our workers: we usually exclude tableware with some imperfections, but it is still a handcrafted item. It is the difference and individuality of each piece that makes it unique, and any possible inaccuracies certify that it is handmade.

Packaging is done with the utmost care to ensure that all products are delivered intact and are kept like precious gems in our large warehouse, waiting to be distributed through an efficient sales network in Italy and many other countries, including Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Malta, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Romania.
